You probably hear it all the time, “You need to work on your personal development.” But what does that mean? How can you do that if you aren’t provided the tools from your workplace?
An excellent place to start is your personal brand. Your personal brand is all the things that makeup you. Your name, the way you dress, write, and speak. The way you do business and in this digital era, your online reputation. Personal branding, just like sales, is all about networking. So work your network. Use your professional connections to grow your online connections. Remember, your personal brand is you.
The next way to work on your professional development Is through maximizing your time and productivity. Time is a precious thing that we all wish we had more of. It’s easy to deny that you have a time management issue, or you may feel anxious about what you need to get done. At some point, we have all fit into one or both of these categories. You have 1440 minutes or 86,400 seconds each day. How you utilize this time and make the most of it takes practice and commitment.
Being able to manage your stress is another great way to build that personal brand and enhance your development. It affects us one way or another, and often there’s a real struggle to find that work/life balance. Regardless of your role and whether you are customer-facing or front of the house, on the culinary team, operations or back of the house, or wearing several hats as a department leader, you need to find ways to manage or alleviate stress and handle the pressures that come with the job.
Lastly, the way you present yourself to clients or an audience is essential. In this track, we have added Simon T. Bailey’s course series, Brilliant Presenter. In this series, Simon lays out the framework necessary to craft a memorable presentation. This series will walk you through The Formula to impact, influence, and inspire your listener.
