This event challenges groups to build a contraption that achieves an objective in a pre-determined number of steps. Teams are challenged with creating their contraption, out of everyday materials (provided), that performs an everyday task, e.g. popping a balloon; knocking down a wall; stapling a packet of paper; etc. Additional themes/challenges can be incorporated. There are many robust work-related metaphors that can be drawn out of this program. It is a good team building activity for small to medium sized groups.
This is a table-top based build activity that works well for groups of 5 ~ 50 participants. It is also a flexible set activity that can be designed to fit in your existing space with little to no changes of your existing room set when possible. Chain Reaction 2.0 can be set up as a collaborative or competitive event as well.
However, this challenge is structured the takeaways are numerous. Work styles, creative solutions, and project management are all themes that can be discussed at the completion of this project. It is a great way to test your team’s outside-the-box thinking and has a very satisfying conclusion if the team is able to work well together.
